You’ll also head through Marlborough wine country, see native wildlife in Kaikoura, visit the iconic West Coast glaciers and go-off-the beaten track on the TranzAlpine train. With each day more remarkable than the last, the sheer beauty and diversity of this landscape will have you reliving your journey over and over again.

Day 1: Depart UK for Auckland

Depart UK for Auckland.

Day 2: Auckland

Begin with a private transfer to your accommodation in the heart of downtown Auckland.  Spend the remainder of the day seeing the sights of New Zealand's largest cosmopolitan hub.

Day 3: Auckland

Collect your rental car and explore one of Auckland’s regional parks. See deserted beaches and rainforests, climb the dormant volcano Rangitoto, or meander the upmarket eateries and back-alley wine bars of Ponsonby

Day 4: Bay of Islands

Travel through rolling farmland to the subtropical Bay of Islands. Marvel at the golden sandy beaches and clear blue water of Paihia, your destination for the night.

Day 5: Bay of Islands

Spend the day playing tourist in this tropical paradise. Go swimming with dolphins, take a nature cruise or visit nearby Waitangi, where a Treaty between the crown and indigenous Maori people was signed.

Day 6: Warkworth

Traverse the top of the North on your way to Waipoua Forest, home to New Zealand’s oldest native Kauri trees. Day 7: Rotorua

Today you’ll follow the road through Waikato king country to thermal region, Rotorua. The route takes you through the small town of Matamata, home to the only remaining, fully intact Lord of the Rings set - Hobbiton.

Day 8: Rotorua

Spend today seeing Rotorua’s boiling mud pools, steaming geysers and natural hot springs. You'll also have the opportunity to learn about New Zealand's Maori culture if you choose to visit the Mitai Maori Village.

Day 9: Wellington

Continue South to Wellington via Taupo and the spectacular Huka Falls. Drive through the blasted landscapes of Tongariro National Park and see Mt Ngauruhoe, also known as Mt Doom in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Day 10: Blenheim

Catch a three hour ferry across the Cook Strait to the top of the South Island, before a short drive to Blenheim. Described as one of the most beautiful ferry rides in the world, you’ll have spectacular views of both the Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura Ranges.

Day 11: Kaikoura

Travel through winding mountains to Kaikoura.Spot the seals as you arrive on the coast and end your day with a Whale Watching tour.

Day 12: Christchurch

Hug the coastline before heading inland through Canterbury wine region, the Waipara Valley, to Christchurch. Wash off the day with dip in the Hanmer Springs thermal pools, only a short 40 minute detour from the city centre

Day 13: Christchurch

Today you're free to see the sights of Christchurch. Tour the city centre by historic tram and go punting on the Avon River. Visit the Botanic Gardens and the world’s only Cardboard Cathedral, or take a short drive to the picturesque French Settlement, Akaroa

Day 14: Mount Cook

Follow the road through the heart of the South Island, crossing the canterbury plains. Stop for a photo in Tekapo - known for its brilliant turquoise color lake - before arriving at Aoraki Mount Cook, your destination tonight

Day 15: Dunedin

Leaving  Aoraki Mount Cook National park, travel past the Mckenzie canals en-route to Dunedin. Take a detour to Moeraki and see it’s unique boulders, before arriving in the Scottish heritage town of Dunedin.

Day 16: Dunedin

Explore the windswept beaches and rugged coastal plains around Dunedin or take walking tour of the central city. Visit New Zealand's only castle, Larnach Castle and be sure to see largest mainland Albatross colony in the world on the Otago Peninsula.

Day 17: Te Anau

Today you’ll drive along the coast  to Te Anau, gateway to Fiordland National park. Be sure to visit the glowworm caves before you leave for a once in a life-time experience.

Day 18: Milford Sound

Take a day trip to Milford Sound where you'll see some of the most beautiful and iconic scenery in the world. You’ll then take a cruise on the sound, seeing sheer cliffs and tumbling waterfalls before heading back.

Day 19: Queenstown

Today pass through Southern tussock lands as you make your way to adventure capital, Queenstown. Enjoy unbeatable alpine scenery as you drive alongside Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables mountain range

Day 20: Queenstown

Spend a full day in this lakeside town. Trawl the wineries in Gibbston Valley or ride the gondola  for breathtaking views of the lake and mountain surrounds. Visit historic Arrowtown or enjoy a day of adrenaline sports such as bungy jumping or jet boating.

Day 21: Franz Josef Galcier

From Queenstown make your way up the west coast to the Franz Josef glacier.  Be sure to leave plenty of time for stopping as you’ll see ocean, rivers, waterfalls and rainforest.

Day 22: Franz Josef Glacier

View the ice spectacle from afar, or get a look up-close with a guided glacier tour. If you're not that keen on walking the glacier, splurge and catch a helicopter for an unforgettable experience

Day 23: Tranz Alpine Train

Start the final driving leg of your tour to Greymouth, where you'll leave your rental car and board the tranzalpine train to Christchurch. View stunning alpine and coastal scenery as you make your way back up the country for the very last time.

Day 24: Fly back to the UK

Your private transfer will drop you at the Christchurch Airport in plenty of time for your outgoing flight.
